PS Vita is Affordable at $249.99! – E3 2011 Coverage

At the end of Sony’s media press briefing earlier today, CEO Kazuo Hirai unveiled the Playstation Vita, the upcoming next-generation handheld gaming system and its two price points. More information after the break. The definite highlight of Sony’s briefing, PS Vita was shown to thousands of attendees at E3 earlier tonight. The handheld represents an evolution that started with the Playstation Portable. According to Hirai, the PS Vita will feature:

  • Dual Touch Pads (Front and Back)
  • Dual Analog Sticks
  • 5″ OLED High Definition Screen
  • Dual Cameras (Front and Back)
  • Six-Axis motion control

He also said that in the USA, Sony has partnered up with telecom giant AT&T for exclusive 3G wifi support including 24,000 wifi hotspots around the US, free to use for AT&T subscribers.

And finally, Hirai unveiled the two SKU pricepoints for the PS Vita:

  • Wi-Fi Only Model is $249.99
  • 3G Model is $299.99

At this price points, gamers face less of a barrier to entry into the next generation of handheld gaming.
