Massive Nintendo 3DS Price Drop to $170

Massive Nintendo 3DS Price Drop to $170

Released earlier this year, Nintendo 3DS sales have been paltry at best. Since its release, Nintendo has sold 710,000 units; a far cry from the original DS release just a few years ago. Because of the slow sales, the company has instituted a massive $80 price cut bringing the handheld system down to $169.99 effective August 2011.

This news came signaling that the handheld was struggling in both in North America and its native Japan.

If you’ve been on the fence on buying the 3DS, now might be the best time to get it. With Metal Gear Solid 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, and Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on the way, there’s lots of incentive to get Nintendo’s newest (yet least successful) handheld.

Now, if you’re one of the 710,000 people who bought the system before the price cut, don’t feel too-too bad. Nintendo is offering a total of 20 games that you can download for free. Keep in mind, these aren’t 3DS games, they’re 10 NES Virtual Console games and 10 Game Boy Advance games.

While not exactly the best consolation, these games can help soothe the burned hearts of early Nintendo 3DS adopters.
