DOOM 3 BFG Edition Coming to PSN, XBL, and PC

Earlier today, Bethesda announced that the PC classic DOOM 3 (dubbed BFG Edition) will be remastered and repackaged for release on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and PC.

DOOM 3 BFG Edition is set to come later this year and will feature perhaps the most complete compilation of DOOM games in recent memory.

Learn more about DOOM 3 BFG Edition after the break.

DOOM 3 with remastered textures and lighting

Featuring enhanced graphics (improved rendering and lighting), lost levels, 5.1 surround sound, checkpoint save system, smoother frame rate, achievements and trophy support, as well as 3D tv support, DOOM 3 BFG Edition looks like it’ll be bringing HD claustrophobic tension to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC players all over the world.

The games included in DOOM 3 BFG Edition include:

  • DOOM 3
  • DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil
  • DOOM 3: The Lost Mission
  • DOOM 2 Classic
  • DOOM Classic

DOOM 3: The Lost Mission is a brand new experience in the DOOM 3 universe that will have players barely surviving through seven demon-infest, heart-pounding levels that will have them frantically blasting away at anything and everything that’s moving.

DOOM 3 BFG Edition includes ‘The Lost Mission’

In addition, and this is something DOOM fans have been asking for ages, id Software has said that the flashlight has been replaced by a brand-new armor-mounted flashlight that allows players to illuminate dark corners and shoot enemies at the same time.

No more switching between the flashlight and my guns? I’m sold!

“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software.

“Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.  New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

And because the DOOM 3 BFG Edition includes both DOOM and DOOM 2, the game collection is the definitive compilation of DOOM titles to ever be released. Oh and before I forget, BFG Edition is the first time that a DOOM game will ever be featured on a PlayStation system. Now that’s a huge first!

  1. depending on the price point i’ll probably pick it up. classic game, finished it a few times. I kind of like the fact you had to switch from your flashlight to the gun though……IMO it added to the creepiness and made me feel more vulnerable and ultimately more scared….

Great article, but the above statement is incorrect. Doom 1 was released for original Playstation.
