Indie Spotlight – The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing
Probably one of my most-awaited independently-developed games this year, JTM’s newest Indie Spotlight shines on NeocoreGames’ The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. The game is a real-time action RPG that features the famed vampire hunter Van Helsing, this action RPG is one part Diablo, one part The Bard’s Tale, and one part Sukiyaki Western Django; meaning it’s addictive, funny, and oozes style at the same time.
A Hungarian-developed title, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is a PC/XBLA game that’s set in a fantasy Europe filled to the brim with monsters to slay and magic/science to use. With beautiful graphics, a funny and engrossing story, the game looks to be a sleeper hit when it releases later this year.
Learn more about The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing after the break.
The game’s plot goes a little something like this, Van Helsing, as most people know, is a famed vampire hunter that attracts people with his quiet yet charming personality. His exploits have earned him titles as the “Great Monster Slayer,” the “Defeater of Vampires,” the “Rescuer of Maidens,” and such.
But alas, this Van Helsing that we know is a different one altogether. He is the son of the famous Van Helsing senior. This young man is of sharp wit and wry humor, with a funny quip or two always on the ready. Of course, the younger Van Helsing wants to make a name for himself and takes on a mission to the land of Borgovia where supernatural entities have enlisted his help to defeat an even more dangerous monster intent on destroying the entire city.
In his mission to Borgovia, Van Helsing will have to use standard weapons as swords and firearms as well as magic and science to defeat his enemies. He’ll also meet with a huge cast of extraordinary and oftentimes funny characters that give life to the world of Van Helsing.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a great indie title without an engrossing storyline, and a beautifully dark and gothic art style. And The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing has them in spades. Just check out the screenshots and the trailer and you’ll see what I’m talking about. If you don’t think Van Helsing looks badass after seeing those, you’re probably crazy.
There’s no definite release date as of yet, so while we wait, check out these screenshots and trailer for The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing.
