Thomas Jane Stars As Frank Castle In Brand New Punisher Short Film
San Diego Comic-Con 2012 will forever be known (in my mind) as the place that Thomas Jane’s The Punisher was reborn. That’s right folks, Thomas Jane once again stars as Frank Castle in a brand-new Punisher short film. Subtitled Dirty Laundry, the short film follows Frank as he serves up his own brand of justice to a gang of violent thugs.
On the way to the laundromat, Frank runs into an inner-city gang; a group of thugs that terrorize the neighborhood. These guys find pleasure in inflicting pain to those that got in their way. One of them beats up a prostitute, and the others beat on a highschool kid for crossing their street. Real Assholes indeed. Really the only man that can stop them is Castle himself, as the Punisher; that means it’s going to be bloody, it’s going to be violent, and it’s going to be straight up street justice.

Let’s be honest here, The Punisher hasn’t had much success in the box office. Dolph Lundgren’s version was campy yet entertaining. Punisher: War Zone had the signature violence but none of the characterization. However, Thomas Jane’s The Punisher stood out as a great revenge flick that truly captured Frank Castle’s reason for being. (I’m talking about the Director’s Cut of course). Since Jane’s The Punisher wasn’t as big of a success as Spider-Man or Blade, the studio execs decided to scrap the planned sequel, and instead gave us Punisher: War Zone. (Ugh…)
Thomas Jane (known for his love and respect for the character of Frank Castle) decided to be part of the new short film as a kind of thank you, a love letter to The Punisher and his fans.
“I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
Hell, if Hollywood is still scratching it’s head thinking up of good ideas for a potential Punisher reboot (which I don’t doubt they’ll make sooner or later) they need take a look at Punisher: Dirty Laundry. It’s only 10 minutes, but it’s 10 minutes that captures the heart and soul of the character.
