Wikipad Android Tablet Launch Delayed

The Wikipad was supposed to launch yesterday, October 31st but I couldn’t find any on store shelves here in Canada. I found it surprising since the Wikipad is one of the most gamer-awaited tablets coming to the market this holiday season. It turns out that the Wikipad developers made a statement on launch day that the tablet will be delayed to make some last-minute enhancements, refinements, and additions to the product.

Learn more about the Wikipad launch delay after the break.

If you don’t know what the Wikipad, it’s an Android tablet that’s been making waves in the game industry since it was shown at CES 2012 in Las Vegas as a tablet that can replicate console-like gaming experiences with it’s high-end components as well as it’s detachable controller; a first of it’s kind.

With its Tegra 3 quad-core processor, the latest Android operating system, and more recently,  support for Sony’s PlayStation Mobile Suite, it’s definitely a gaming tablet to look out for.

Check out our in-depth interview with Wikipad CEO James Bower.

Oh and if you’re one of the peope who pre-ordered the Wikipad from Gamestop/EB Games, Wikipad Inc has said that there will be a special bonus gift coming with your pre-order.

Unfortunately, no new release dates have been announced. Stay tuned for updates.

Here’s the complete statement from the Wikipad team:

“The Wikipad team has been relentlessly working with our manufacturers and partners to perfect the Wikipad bundle to ensure our first product is the best tablet and entertainment experience at launch.  There is a last minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad.

We have informed our retail partners about this delay.  For those who pre-ordered the Wikipad at GameStop through today October 31st, we will deliver the refined and upgraded bundles as well as a special bonus gift with the pre-order.

We are very eager to deliver the Wikipad experience and are passionate about excellence.  We apologize for this delay and want you to know that we are committed to bringing you the very best, high-end gaming tablet possible.

We are in the final stage and will be announcing the new date soon.”
