Capcom Announces Street Fighter X Mega Man for PC

Over the weekend, Capcom announced plans to release a crossover title mixing Street Fighter and Mega Man; two of the Japanese company’s most storied franchises. Street Fighter X Mega Man is set to launch as a FREE PC download later this month through Capcom-Unity.

Street Fighter X Mega Man will have the blue bomber in his home turf, with all the classic sidescrolling gameplay you remember from his 8-bit adventures. What makes this game so special is each of the stages will be Street Fighter-themed and includes bosses based on Street Fighter characters. Of course, each of the bosses will be bringing the fight to Mega Man using their own fighting styles and iconic special attacks.

Who would’ve thought this crossover would ever happen? Kudos Capcom, Kudos.

Once the blue bomber defeats each of the Street Fighters, he’ll be able to take their special powers and use them as his own. For example, once Mega Man defeats Rolento, he’ll be able to throw grenades in a variety of directions. Mega Man will also be able to use Lightning Kicks after he defeats Chun Li.

“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,” said Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA. “This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”

Finally, Street Fighter X Mega Man will also feature an original chiptune soundtrack composed by A_Rival. These tunes are remixes and mash-ups of classic themes that embodied each of the franchises. Street Fighter X Mega Man is set to release on December 17, 2012 on Capcom-Unity’s site.

JTM Thoughts:

Anyone else love the resurgence of top-quality retro titles this year? From Retro City Rampage, to Abobo’s Big Adventure, to Street Fighter X Mega Man, it’s great to see a younger generation that’s able to enjoy the types of games that we used to play when we were younger.

And with the combination of two iconic franchises, Street Fighter X Mega Man is a Capcom fan’s dream come true. Here’s hoping that the game includes support for gamepads (including the USB NES controllers).

Careful that you don’t drool too much over these amazing screenshots ok?
