Top Three Wii U Games Coming in 2013

If you were lucky enough to have received a Wii U this holiday season, you’ll no doubt be busy getting to grips with one or more of the great Wii U games that were launched with the system back in November. But what about next year? What titles should you look out for that will make the most of Wii U and its GamePad?

Check out the top three Wii U Games you should look for in 2013 after the break.

Action /Adventure – Rayman Legends

When it comes to adventure games, the Rayman franchise has been pretty popular across systems including Nintendo 64, Nintend0 3DS and Wii to name just a few. Like many Super Mario games, the series usually offers platform-based fun, and Rayman Legends is no different.

Using more traditional control options, you’ll need to guide Rayman through the many levels of the game. But with the Wii U GamePad, you also get touch screen and motion control, as well as great interaction in co-operative mode. Players can use the Wii U GamePad alongside additional Wii Remote controllers for up to five-way play or carry on in solo mode when the TV is in use.

Action/Strategy – Pikmin 3

There are loads of titles that came with the launch of Wii U asking you to get lost inside a fantasy world for a while – with Nintendo Land being one of the best examples for families. If, on the other hand, you want to get into something a bit deeper, you may find that Pikmin 3 is right up your alley.

As strategy games go, it’s pretty expansive and great for single-player adventures – although you can also get a multiplayer game going with Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuks or the Wii U GamePad. The GamePad also allows you to switch between views so you can keep better track of how your army of Pikmin characters are progressing.

First Person Shooters – Aliens: Colonial Marines

If you’re a fan of first-person shooters, you’re likely to have a close eye on Aliens: Colonial Marines. Colonial Marines puts you at the center of the action and follows James Cameron’s 1986 entry in the movie franchise. Joined by a team of space marines, you’ll need to get to the bottom of what happened aboard the abandoned U.S.S. Sulaco and face down Xenomorphs with pulse rifles, flame throwers and whatever else you can. With single-player and drop-in/drop-out co-operative modes, Aliens: Colonial Marines looks set to be a great way to make the most of the Wii U GamePad and high definition visuals.

2013 looks like it’s going to be a big year for Wii U and Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, and Aliens: Colonial Marines are just a few of the reasons why new Wii U owners should be excited. Not only that, expect the Wii U GamePad to shepherd new, unique, and interesting ways for players to interact with their favourite games.

  1. All three of those are great games, but it would appear that a lot of people that purchased the Wii U are somewhat dissatisfied with the system. It seems that a new and improved version of a system is not so great sometimes.

    • Thanks for your feedback Fred! What disappoints you about the current state of the Wii U?

I’m actually still pretty happy with my Wii and not quite ready to move onto a Wii U. The current software lineup really doesn’t interest me, though that’s sure to change when Bayonetta 2, Zelda, and a truly next-gen Mario arrives.
