Top Five Most Anticipated PS3 Games of 2013
After a relatively quiet year for big releases in 2012, Sony is looking to bring the PS3 to the forefront this year with a cadre of high-quality, third-party releases as well as introduce their newest/biggest new IP to the marketplace. From fighting games, to first person shooters, to open-world games, PS3 fans can look forward to a big year stacked full of amazing games.
And with that, let us get into our top five most anticipated PS3 games of 2013.
5. Injustice: Gods Among Us:
I remember how disappointed I was when I first got my hands on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. I was a little hesitant to put Injustice on this list, but if its half as fun as the Mortal Kombat reboot was then sign me up. A fighting game that pits all of your favorite DC Universe characters against each other, Injustice: Gods Among Us has some truly awe-inspiring special moves and a robust roster featuring fan favorites like Bane, Batman, Green Lantern and more. The level design features interactive environments with multiple tiers; all running on a similar engine as Mortal Kombat!
4. Beyond: Two Souls
Quantic Dream, the creators of Heavy Rain brings us our next game on this list. With an original storyline, Beyond: Two Souls is looking to be as immersive and cinematic as Heavy Rain. One look at the trailer is enough to know that this game is going to be worth – at the very least – a second look by EVERYONE with a PlayStation 3. Beyond: Two Souls casts you as Jodie Holmes (portrayed by actress Ellen Paige) a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through a psychic link to an invisible entity. As you travel the globe, Jodie will face incredible challenges against a backdrop of emotionally-charged events Quantic Dream promises never to have been seen in a videogame before.
3. Bioshock Infinite
It’s true, we have been waiting for BioShock Infinite for some time now. But if Irrational Games can create a new world as rich and intriguing as Rapture, then it will have been worth it. Gone are the Big Daddies and Splicers of old; in this world you play as Booker DeWitt, a former agent-turned-drunken gambler hired by mysterious individuals to infiltrate the unique floating-city of Columbia and rescue a young woman named Elizabeth. Columbia is composed of neoclassical buildings constructed on giant reactors and self-sustaining balloons that makes the city literally fly over the clouds. Irrational Games, you have peaked my interest yet again.
2. The Last of Us
Even if you have yet to experience the awesomeness that is the Uncharted franchise, all you have to do is watch The Last of Us’ gameplay videos and trailers to know that the guys and gals at Naughty Dog are some of the best in the business. I’m personally excited to see what these guys come up with in regards to story since I already know the gameplay and visuals are going to be solid. It does lose originality points because of it’s post-apocalyptic setting and infected/zombie antagonists; thankfully, it looks to have superb character animation, dynamic voice acting, and a deep story – like Uncharted – that I think most of us are willing to overlook The Last of Us’ “me too” setting.
1. Grand Theft Auto V
I don’t know what it is about the Grand Theft Auto franchise; every time I hear that there’s a new one launching, I get goosebumps and immediately book at least two weeks off work so i can play game uninterrupted at launch. And I’m glad to say it’s no different with Grand Theft Auto V. This time around we’ll be returning to the city of Los Santos, my personal favorite locale from GTA: San Andreas. GTA V’s game world is much bigger this time around; in fact it’s bigger than San Andreas, GTA 4’s Liberty City, and Red Dead Redemption’s world! Add to that three playable characters, large scale set pieces, the addition of animals like dogs and sharks, as well as a number of new and returning activities and you’ve got yourself the most anticipated PS3 game of the year.
There you have it folks, our top five most anticipated PS3 games of 2013. What games are you excited for this year? Let us know in the comment section below.
