And The 2013 Canadian Videogame Award Winners Are…

canadian videogame awards trophies

Well, we just came back to the hotel after a crazy night at the fourth annual Canadian Videogame Awards and oh boy was it ever a blast. Not only did it put a spotlight on amazing Canadian-developed games, it also showcased the talented studios and people behind them.

Let me tell you, the competition this year was the fiercest it’s ever been. Indie breakout hits like Mark of the Ninja, Papo & Yo, and Sound Shapes faced off with Triple-A heavy hitters like Far Cry 3, Assassin’s Creed 3, and Sleeping Dogs in awards categories that blurred the line between Indie and big budget productions.

Our own pick for 2012’s Best Overall Shooter – Far Cry 3 took home six awards including the coveted Game of the Year, Mass Effect 3 won Best Console Game and two others, while Mark of the Ninja stood out of the indie scene with their two award wins including Best Indie Game.

Hit the jump for the full list of winners and nominees at the Canadian Videogame Awards.

You’ll be able to watch the CVA two-hour special on CityTV on April 27th at 9:00 pm and on G4 Canada on April 28th. Some of the cool things you’ll see are interviews with the various developers in Canada, a hilarious round-table with voice over actors David Hayter (Metal Gear), Elias Toufexis (Deus Ex: Human Revolution), Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect Trilogy), Mark Meer (Mass Effect) and Michael Mando (Far Cry 3). Trust me, you’ve never seen Vaas quite like this.

Finally, stay tuned to JTM in the next week for in-depth interviews with CVA and Fan Expo special guests and our coverage of the CVA Red Carpet event.

  1. That night sounds like it was so much fun! I’m super jealous. 🙂 Also the character of Vaas definitely deserved to win best new character. After Shepherd I think he’s by far my new favourite video game character of all time. It’s also great that Canadian talent is getting its proper time in the limelight. I eagerly await all the interviews and all the cool stuff you guys have got coming out!

    • Don’t be jealous at all Sam, I’ve been following all the hard work you’ve been putting into your own career and blog. You can easily cover events like these, just apply for the media passes whenever they become available.

You’re right, it’s wonderful that the Canadian media (especially Rogers, Future Shop, Reboot Communications, and other sponsors) recognize and celebrate Canadian talent. Sure, BC may be facing difficulties compared to Eastern Canada, but dammit we have some of the most incredibly talented developers and designers here.

Check out the site tomorrow, we’ll be publishing an interview with the co-founder of the CVA’s then!
